Linda Sun, who previously served as an aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was arrested along with her husband, Christopher Hu, for allegedly acting as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The arrest followed an FBI raid on their Long Island home.
Sun, 41, is facing several serious charges, including violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband, Hu, 40, is charged with money laundering conspiracy and bank fraud. Federal authorities allege that the couple laundered millions of dollars on behalf of the Chinese government, using the funds to purchase luxury properties and vehicles.
The indictment accuses Sun of using her position in the New York state government to obstruct representatives from Taiwan while arranging meetings for Chinese officials. Their luxury purchases reportedly include a $4.1 million home on Long Island, a $2.1 million condo in Hawaii, and a 2024 Ferrari.
U.S. Attorney Breon Peace highlighted that Sun and her husband worked to further the interests of the CCP while enriching themselves. Gov. Hochul’s administration terminated Sun’s employment in March 2023 after uncovering evidence of her illegal activities, and they have fully cooperated with federal law enforcement.
