David Axelrod, senior advisor to former President Barack Obama, issued some harsh advice to current President Joe Biden on Sunday. The Democrat suggested that the incumbent drop out of the 2024 presidential race.
His admonition came on the heels of the latest New York Times/Siena College poll that showed Biden lagging behind former President Donald Trump in several key states.
Axelrod’s advice was posted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

The powerful Democrat admitted that it is late in the game for such a change and by all accounts Biden’s determination to seek a second term is strong. Resolve, however, may not be enough to stave off a strong Republican challenge.
Writing that “only Joe Biden can make this decision,” Axelrod further noted that he will be the Democratic nominee if he stays the course. “What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?”
The latest survey causing Democratic headaches revealed Biden is losing to Trump by up to 10 points in five battleground states he conquered three years ago.
The GOP frontrunner is leading by 10 points in Nevada, six in Georgia, five in Arizona and Michigan, and four in Pennsylvania. Wisconsin came in for Biden by a scant two points.
The Democrat won all six states on his way to the Oval Office in 2020.
Axelrod believes the largest impediment holding Biden back among voters is his advanced age. He gave a familiar Democratic talking point in claiming that the nation owes the president a debt of gratitude before revealing the brazen partisanship he is known in political circles for.
The former Obama official called Trump “a dangerous, unhinged demagogue whose brazen disdain for the rules, norms, laws, and institutions [of] democracy should be disqualifying.”
Axelrod added that the risks to the nation “are too dramatic to ignore.” Therefore, following his logic, Trump must be defeated at all costs, even if it means putting Biden out to pasture.
Interesting, this is the same logic deployed in the controversial 2020 presidential election. And indeed, Trump was beaten “at all costs.”
Now the nation is paying a heavy price for turning away from peace and prosperity.
