Biden Administration Abandons North Carolina Families While Pouring Billions Into Ukraine

Today, 3,500 families in North Carolina are being evicted from FEMA-funded hotels as freezing temperatures and snow threaten the region. These families, still recovering from Hurricane Helene, are left without shelter while the Biden administration continues funneling billions of taxpayer dollars into Ukraine’s war effort. Just this week, another $500 million in military aid was approved for Ukraine, exposing the administration’s misplaced priorities.

FEMA has ended its Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, claiming that some homes are now “habitable,” some families declined inspections or could not be reached. However, many families report they were never properly contacted or inspected, leaving them blindsided by the loss of support. With freezing conditions settling over the state, families are now in grave danger.

North Carolina is bracing for a brutal winter storm, with forecasts predicting several inches of snow and temperatures plunging into the teens. Emergency shelters are already overwhelmed, and FEMA has only provided 90 temporary housing units—far fewer than promised. This leaves thousands of families without a safe place to stay as dangerous weather looms.

North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis (R) condemned FEMA’s failure to support these families, calling it “unacceptable” and demanding immediate action to eliminate the bureaucratic obstacles preventing aid. He emphasized that FEMA’s slow response is putting already vulnerable people at further risk.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration’s unwavering focus on Ukraine continues. Since 2022, more than $175 billion has been sent to Ukraine, with little accountability or oversight. While foreign aid continues, American families are left to suffer in life-threatening conditions without proper assistance.

Local shelters and community organizations are struggling to meet the demand for emergency housing. Families are left with no answers and nowhere to turn.
