Bill Maher Slams Media For Misleading Claims About Trump’s Remarks On Cheney

Bill Maher recently took aim at the media for allegedly misrepresenting President Donald Trump’s remarks on former Rep. Liz Cheney, accusing them of twisting Trump’s words to suggest he called for her execution. During a Real Time Overtime segment, Maher voiced frustration with headlines that implied Trump had suggested a firing squad for Cheney.

Maher explained that Trump’s comments were directed at Cheney’s support for military action, not a call for violence. To clarify, Maher read Trump’s statement in full: “Let’s put her with a rifle standing there.” Maher emphasized that Trump’s statement was meant to highlight how easy it is for policymakers to push for sending troops into danger while staying safe themselves.

“This is exactly what anti-war voices have been saying for years,” Maher noted. “I don’t like Trump, but don’t lie to me,” he added, criticizing the media’s approach to covering Trump. Maher’s comments reflect a larger frustration with sensationalized headlines that often mislead the public.

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) agreed with Maher during the segment, describing the media’s portrayal as “ridiculous and counterproductive.” Raskin, who criticized Trump’s views, still acknowledged that exaggerating statements does not serve the public interest.

Maher’s remarks come at a time when many Americans are turning to alternative news sources, frustrated by mainstream media’s handling of divisive figures. Some observers believe the media used the Cheney story to divert attention from a recent economic report showing weak job growth in the private sector under the Harris-Biden administration.
