Attorney General Pam Bondi has taken swift action in her new role, following through on President Donald Trump’s commitment to restoring law and order at the Department of Justice. In her first days, Bondi has issued critical directives aimed at ending federal support for sanctuary cities and investigating politically driven prosecutions.
One of Bondi’s top priorities has been the creation of the Weaponization Working Group, which is tasked with reviewing the DOJ’s past investigations. This includes cases connected to January 6, where concerns have been raised about whether federal agencies were used to target political opponents.
Bondi has also directed an immediate freeze on federal funding for sanctuary cities, blocking taxpayer dollars from going to jurisdictions that defy immigration laws. Under her order, DOJ grants and contracts will no longer be issued to cities that refuse to cooperate with federal authorities.
In addition to defunding sanctuary cities, Bondi has initiated a full-scale review of federal officials who engaged in politically motivated investigations. The Trump administration is taking action to remove bureaucrats who misused their positions for partisan purposes.
These changes mark a clear shift in priorities at the DOJ, aligning with Trump’s broader efforts to dismantle the influence of unelected officials who have obstructed his administration. Bondi’s leadership has already set the stage for a major overhaul in how justice is applied at the federal level.
With Bondi’s directives now in place, the administration has signaled that additional measures will be taken to ensure that federal agencies are no longer used as tools for political persecution.
