A Border Patrol agent has criticized the Biden-Harris administration for what he describes as a shift in focus from border security to aiding migrants. Zachary Apotheker, who joined the Border Patrol in 2020, has voiced frustration over changes that he believes have turned the agency into a “migrant concierge service.”
Apotheker expressed his concerns about the increase in illegal crossings since President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris assumed office. Over 8 million migrants have crossed the southern border, including members of violent groups like the Tren de Aragua gang from Venezuela. Apotheker argues that this shift in duties has compromised national security.
The agent detailed issues with how unaccompanied migrant children are documented, noting that many lack crucial biometric data and are released into the U.S. without court dates. He pointed out that 291,000 migrant children have been released without scheduled court appearances, and 32,000 have missed their hearings.
Apotheker has also highlighted the rise in migrant-related crimes, stating, “When I see people from another country coming here, getting resources beyond what the American citizen can get, that’s where I have to draw the line.” He is concerned about the impact of current policies on American citizens, including instances of violence and crime linked to migrants.
The Border Patrol agent is prepared to risk his job to bring attention to what he sees as serious issues with current border management. The White House and Border Patrol have yet to address his comments.
