Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) has filed articles of impeachment against Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing her of failing to manage the southern border and hiding President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline. This action underscores growing concerns among conservatives about Harris’s effectiveness and the administration’s transparency.
Harris was appointed as “border czar” in early 2021, and Ogles criticizes her for her handling of immigration issues. He points to her September 2022 assertion that the border was “secure,” despite incidents like the murder of Laken Riley by an illegal immigrant. Ogles argues that Harris’s policies have led to significant failures in border security.
Ogles also accuses Harris of misleading the American public and Congress about Biden’s mental health. He contends that Harris, having met with Biden over 417 times since February 2021, was aware of his cognitive issues but failed to act. Ogles claims that Harris has a “clear moral obligation” to invoke the 25th Amendment, as Biden is “no longer capable of discharging the duties of his office.”
Former President Donald Trump has echoed these concerns, promising strict immigration reforms and mass deportations if reelected, similar to policies from the Eisenhower era in the 1950s.
The articles of impeachment reflect deep dissatisfaction within the GOP over the handling of border security and the administration’s lack of transparency regarding Biden’s health. The ensuing debate is likely to bring increased scrutiny and debate over the current leadership and policies.
