The high cost of being a so-called “sanctuary” city keeps getting higher for Democratic enclaves. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson just signed a rich $26 million dollar contract to build extensive migrant camps for the thousands of illegals flooding the city.
Six locations are set to hold between 200 and 1,400 migrants. This development only added fuel to fire for outraged Chicago natives who argue the millions should go towards helping the impoverished who are U.S. citizens.
The Windy City’s “sanctuary” status attracted roughly 11,000 illegal migrants just since Aug. 2022. Some estimates put the actual figure at closer to 14,000 in this year alone.
Security company Garda World was awarded Chicago’s lucrative contract to build camps.
Critics set the price tag for Chicago taxpayers at over $300 million by the end of the year. Currently, the city is housing some 1,600 migrants at police stations and two area airports.
Officials expressed concerns over conditions which will arrive with the brutal Chicago winter. In a statement, Johnson’s office said the contract “enables the city to stand up the base camps expeditiously and more quickly move new arrivals…as the weather begins to change.”

I guess this is what you get when you vote for a communist.

Border states which unfairly bore the brunt of President Joe Biden’s illegal migrant crisis began busing asylum seekers to the “sanctuary” cities. This sparked an outcry, especially in New York City and Chicago, from authorities complaining about now having to share the burden.
Meanwhile, the crisis manufactured by radical Democrats shows no signs of abating.
Bill Melugin of Fox News posted last week on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources reported a massive surge in illegal migrant encounters.
He noted that “in the last 24 hours alone, over 10,000 migrants were encountered at the border.” This would match the all-time record high numbers faced by authorities earlier this year before the close of Title 42.
The news is worse from the Border Patrol Union. The almost completely unvetted population of young males released onto U.S. streets is getting even more drastic. From Sept. 1 through the 20th, the organization reported the Biden administration ordered the release of another 100,000.
All of this comes as the administration laughably claims to have secured the nation’s southern border.
