Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI) has raised serious concerns about election integrity after discovering that thousands of duplicate absentee ballots sent out in Madison missing the required barcodes. Tiffany shared on X that despite the Madison Clerk’s Office claiming the ballots had identical barcodes and would not be allowed to be submitted, his office obtained proof showing otherwise.
Tiffany revealed that over 2,000 duplicate ballots had been distributed to roughly 10 wards in Madison, sparking calls for an investigation. In a letter to Maribeth Witzel-Behl, the Madison city clerk, Tiffany expressed alarm over the incident and questioned how such a significant error could occur.
“Like many Wisconsinites, I was alarmed by recent reports that ‘around 2,000’ duplicate ballots have been sent out,” Tiffany wrote. He demanded more transparency, asking for the exact number of ballots affected and whether the Clerk’s Office had reported the issue to law enforcement. Tiffany questioned if the error was simply a mistake or part of something more sinister.
The representative’s office shared a photo of one of the duplicate ballots that lacked a barcode, contradicting the Clerk’s earlier claims. Tiffany’s concerns have sparked a wider debate about the safety and reliability of absentee voting ahead of the upcoming election.
Tiffany stressed that this issue must be thoroughly investigated and not “swept under the rug.” He called for those responsible for the error to be held accountable, warning that such incidents could undermine voters’ confidence in the system.
As absentee ballots continue to be a focal point in discussions about election integrity, Tiffany’s revelations highlight the need for transparency and accountability in the election process.
