DC Schools To Enroll Migrants While Blocking Unvaccinated Citizens

Washington, D.C.’s public school system announced its intention to enroll illegal migrants for the pending school year — but the unvaccinated will be barred from attending.

D.C. Public Schools Chancellor Lewis D. Ferebee said the migrant students will have access to all the services they need and, if they live in a certain area, will be enrolled in a neighborhood school.

Up to 40 students can be enrolled in the program.

It was April when Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced his program to bus illegal migrants from the southern border to East Coast cities. Thus far thousands have been transported from Texas and Arizona to D.C. and New York City — most to the nation’s capital.

The welcome mat for illegal migrants is a far cry from what the system has in store for students who are not vaccinated against COVID-19. There appears to be no contingency plan for students after the first 20 days of school.

Meaning there is not even a backup plan for virtual learning if a student does not comply with the shot mandate. The result is that the district is utterly abandoning these students and blocking them from receiving an education.

Even more disturbing is who will be harmed the most by the system’s appalling lack of tolerance and planning. By the city government’s own statistics, 47% of D.C.’s Black children (ages 12-15) and 42% of its Black teens (ages 16-17) are not fully vaccinated.

If the current rules stand, there may be thousands of children left without an educational alternative in just a matter of weeks. But taking these types of stands is far from new for Mayor Muriel Bowser and others in the nation’s capital.

On Thursday, a D.C. Superior Court judge ended her COVID-19 shot mandate for city workers. Acknowledging that the mayor has an interest in stopping the spread of coronavirus, Judge Maurice A Ross still ruled that the mandate was unlawful.

As should the school mandate also be. Accepting dozens of illegal migrant students while blocking minority kids from the neighborhood from getting an education is appalling. Unfortunately for liberal Democrats, it is not shocking.
