While the prospects for new gun control measures remain uncertain, Democrats plan to start their efforts in the Senate, however, the push is expected to face challenges in the House.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY.) has previously supported bipartisan gun safety legislation. Republicans’ evolving views on gun control contribute to the changing landscape, according to Frist and other advocacy groups. Discharge petitions aiming to pass gun control bills through the House have made little progress as they strategize ways to secure enough Republican support.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) dismisses the viability of an assault weapons ban, arguing that it would not effectively address the millions of existing firearms. Cornyn and other conservatives prioritize the protection of law-abiding citizens’ rights while supporting safe and responsible gun ownership.
If Democrats want to kill each other, it seems they will find away even in gun control states.
