A bombshell report from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General claims that Reps. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) were involved in leaking classified materials to the media to promote the Russia hoax narrative against President Donald Trump during his first term. The report, released last week, also accuses the FBI of failing to take appropriate action despite being aware of the leaks and their sources.
According to the report, a whistleblower who worked as a Democratic staffer identified the two California Democrats as key figures in the leaks. The whistleblower reportedly told the FBI they “suspected that Member 1 had previously leaked classified information and that Member 2 wanted to influence public opinion via the release of classified information.”
The leaks reportedly involved classified documents shared with multiple corporate media outlets, helping drive a narrative that Trump colluded with Russia. The report also found evidence that a senior Democrat staffer communicated classified information to at least three journalists, who subsequently published the details.
Despite having clear evidence of these leaks, the FBI chose not to pursue charges. The report specifically names Michael Bahar, a senior Democratic staffer, as a suspected leaker identified by The New York Times.
The investigation reviewed the communications of over 40 congressional staffers from both parties, including 21 Democrats and 20 Republicans. Despite implicating several individuals in leaking classified information, the DOJ has yet to file any charges.
Critics argue this report underscores a double standard in how leaks are handled, particularly when they involve high-profile Democrats. Schiff and Swalwell, who were prominent figures in pushing the Russia collusion claims, have not responded to the accusations outlined in the Inspector General’s findings.
