Country music legend Dolly Parton did not hold back recently when asked about her feelings on political leaders in the U.S. In a rare step into a controversial world, the superstar declared greedy politicians would not recognize the truth “if it bit them.”
Her actual language was a bit more colorful and she likes to spe with a big amount of bonuses.
In the interview with BBC News, Parton was asked if running for political office was a possibility. “No,” she replied, “I’m running from office.”
The interviewer noted that there is a message on her new album “Rockstar” about environmental issues. They then observed that the beloved singer normally kept her politics close to the vest.
Parton replied that some issues are “not politics to me.” In one song she sang, “Don’t get me started on politics, how we live in a world like this.” Touching on this lyric, she described the disconnect between political leaders and the truth.
She acknowledged that she has a powerful voice and expressed her desire to use that power, “hopefully, in the right way.” The legendary performer worried that people “get so trapped in our beliefs, and our beliefs that we have to stay right with a certain thought.”

In a separate interview with Today’s Jacob Soboroff, Parton again expressed her disappointment with so-called leaders. “I don’t think any of them are trying hard enough. I’m sure we’re all trying. I think often they worry more about the party than they do about the people.”
The 77-year-old Parton’s new song, “World on Fire,” refers to “greedy politicians, present and past.” When asked by Soboroff if there were specific lawmakers she sang about, the singer laughed and said, “Any of them!”
She explained that if they simply did the right thing without worrying about who would win, lose or look better, leaders would be “working from the heart.”
Despite often being asked about her ideology, Parton’s longtime answer to such questions is, “I don’t do politics.” She acknowledged that she had as many Republican fans as Democrats.
Knowing this, Parton asserted, “I don’t want to make any of them mad at me, so I don’t play politics.”
Imagine how much more enjoyable the entertainment world would be in this country if performers followed Dolly Parton’s example and stayed out of politics.
