House Moves To Overturn Biden’s Title IX Changes, Sparking Debate

The Republican-led House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday to overturn President Biden’s recent Title IX revisions. These changes expanded the law’s protections to include gender identity, allowing males in female-only spaces and sports. Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) celebrated the bill’s passage, stating it protects girls’ sports. “It’s a great day for our daughters and granddaughters,” Miller posted on X, highlighting the importance of safeguarding women’s sports from Biden’s “radical attempt” to change Title IX.

The bill now heads to the Democrat-controlled Senate, where it faces significant challenges. Even if it passes there, President Biden can still veto the legislation. Supporters of the bill argue that it upholds biological distinctions and ensures the safety of women and girls. The Independent Women’s Forum expressed their support on X, calling it a step closer to repealing Biden’s “discriminatory” Title IX rule. Former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines also praised the House’s decision, describing it as a victory for “biological reality, common sense, and humanity.”

Biden’s Title IX changes have been controversial since they apply the law’s protections based on gender identity rather than just biological sex. This move allows males to enter female-only spaces and participate in women’s athletics, sparking concern among those who believe it compromises the integrity of women’s sports. The Title IX Congressional Review Act (CRA) passed by the House seeks to revert these changes, reinforcing protections based solely on biological sex.

In order to successfully overturn Biden’s Title IX rewrite, the bill must secure a simple majority in the Senate. However, even with Senate approval, President Biden retains the power to veto it. Advocates of the CRA emphasize that the bill is crucial for protecting women’s sports and maintaining fairness. “We’ve come too far to be erased!” the Independent Women’s Forum stated, underscoring their commitment to defending the rights and opportunities of women and girls in sports.
