ICE Detainers Filed Against 1,000+ Inmates In Texas Jail, Shows Serious Border Shortcomings

A new report has revealed that more than 1,100 inmates in Harris County Jail are illegal migrants flagged with ICE detainers. The detainees, who represent about 10% of the jail’s population, are facing deportation upon release, with many of them charged with violent crimes, according to records obtained by Fox News.

Of the migrants detained, close to half are accused of violent acts, including over 170 cases of sexual assault. Some of these involve minors under 14, and there are also 75 murder cases, 22 of which are classified as capital murder. In one high-profile incident, two Venezuelan migrants have been charged with capital murder in the death of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungarayu. Her mother has pointed to Biden-Harris border policies as a contributing factor, saying they allowed dangerous individuals into the country.

Family members impacted by crime involving illegal migrants are speaking out. Victoria Garcia, whose son was reportedly killed by a migrant during a road rage incident, expressed anger toward current immigration policies. “Ricardo didn’t ask to be killed,” she said, calling for greater accountability.

Local officials are responding with calls for action. Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey described the high number of criminal migrants as “no surprise” and urged leaders to focus on public safety. “We know crime continues to be a problem,” Ramsey said, advocating for stronger policies on immigration and crime reduction.

With the election approaching, these records are fueling discussions on the relationship between border policies and public safety, as Texas faces unique challenges related to both issues.
