Kash Patel Orders Major FBI Staff Relocation From DC

New FBI Director Kash Patel has begun reshaping the agency by ordering the transfer of 1,500 employees from Washington, D.C., to locations across the country.

Patel, who took office after a narrow Senate confirmation vote of 51-49, has instructed that 1,000 staff members be reassigned to FBI field offices in various states. Another 500 will be sent to the FBI’s Huntsville, Alabama, facility, which has been expanding for years.

President Donald Trump, who appointed Patel, praised his leadership at the swearing-in ceremony, stating that FBI agents “respect him” and predicting he will be “the best ever” in the role. Patel expressed gratitude for the opportunity, calling it the greatest honor of his life.

The Justice Department has been pushing for changes at the FBI, recently removing several top officials and demanding information on agents tied to politically sensitive investigations. Patel has pledged to refocus the agency on its primary law enforcement duties.

Democrats have raised concerns about Patel’s appointment, warning that his leadership could be influenced by Trump. Patel dismissed those claims, stating his priority is restoring trust in the agency and ensuring accountability.

The FBI’s Huntsville location already houses over 1,300 employees and is expected to expand further as more staff members relocate under Patel’s directive.
