Musk’s Viral Posts Criticizing Spending Bill Were Approved By Trump

Elon Musk’s high-profile criticism of the failed government spending bill was reportedly preapproved by President-elect Donald Trump. Trump confirmed to NBC News that he had encouraged Musk to express his opposition, which became a rallying cry for conservatives to block the legislation.

“I told him that if he agrees with me, that he could put out a statement,” Trump explained, emphasizing that Musk’s concerns about the bill’s excessive spending were in line with his own. Musk’s posts, including a photo of the bill’s 1,500+ pages labeled “the biggest piece of pork,” quickly went viral.

The spending package, introduced by House Speaker Mike Johnson, faced immediate backlash for its size, timing, and provisions. Critics were particularly incensed by hidden pay raises for Congress and other elements they viewed as catering to Democratic interests.

Trump joined the opposition, describing the bill as a “Democrat trap” and warning Johnson to take a firmer stance on fiscal issues. Trump’s dissatisfaction has raised questions about Johnson’s ability to maintain conservative support in his role as speaker.

Trump also weighed in on the debt ceiling, advocating for its complete elimination. His stance drew praise from unlikely allies, including Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who called his proposal “smart” and echoed his call to end the practice of governing by debt ceiling deadlines.
