State Sen. Jon Bramnick (R-NJ) has urged the state to declare a “limited state of emergency banning all drones” following weeks of mysterious drone sightings. The unexplained activity has raised concerns about safety, privacy, and security, especially near sensitive locations.
“The State of New Jersey should issue a limited state of emergency banning all drones until the public receives an explanation regarding these multiple sightings,” Bramnick stated on X, reflecting widespread frustration among residents and officials.
Since mid-November, witnesses have reported drones with bright lights flying over various parts of New Jersey, including President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course and the Picatinny Arsenal. The sightings have now spread to Staten Island, New York, further amplifying concerns.
Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. (R-NJ) has joined the call for action, demanding federal agencies, including the FAA and Department of Homeland Security, investigate the drones. “The safety and privacy of our residents must be a top priority,” Kean said, adding that a public briefing is needed to provide answers.
Gov. Phil Murphy (D) has sought to reassure residents, stating that there is no immediate danger but that authorities are actively monitoring the situation. “We are in close coordination with federal and state partners,” Murphy said.
Bramnick’s proposal highlights the urgency of addressing the drone activity, as concerns over their purpose and potential risks continue to mount. The calls for answers reflect the growing frustration of New Jersey residents and their leaders.
