California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has called a special legislative session to counter the policies of President Donald Trump’s incoming administration. The session, beginning December 2, has been criticized as a politically motivated move that prioritizes partisan battles over addressing California’s ongoing crises.
“California is ready to fight,” Newsom said, claiming Trump’s presidency threatens the state’s progressive policies on climate, immigration, and LGBTQ+ rights. However, conservatives argue that this aggressive stance will only harm California residents by isolating the state from the benefits of Trump’s America First agenda.
President Trump should actually deport you, Gavin Newsom.

Critics have called the session a clear signal that Newsom is preparing for a 2028 presidential campaign. Rather than working with Trump to tackle issues like homelessness, rising crime, and unaffordable housing, Newsom appears more focused on appeasing California’s left-wing activists.
Attorney General Rob Bonta echoed Newsom’s rhetoric, pledging to defend the state’s progressive laws. “We stand ready to defend your rights and protect California values,” Bonta said. Still, many argue that California would benefit greatly from cooperating with Trump’s policies, which could bring jobs, secure the border, and reduce red tape for businesses.
Good luck with that 😂

Newsom’s refusal to engage with the federal government reflects a missed opportunity for California to address its most pressing issues. Trump’s economic policies, which emphasize growth and job creation, could provide relief to California residents who are struggling with high costs of living.
For conservatives, Newsom’s actions are nothing more than political theater. By prioritizing partisan fights over practical solutions, they argue, he is neglecting the needs of Californians and using the state as a platform for his own political ambitions.
