State Assemblyman Ron Kim, a Korean-American representative from Queens, has accused the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of attempting to steal his assembly seat during the last Democratic primary.
Kim claimed foreign groups linked to the CCP backed his opponent, Yi Andy Chen, in an effort to influence the outcome.
“There were clear patterns of foreign influence trying to dictate the outcome of the election,” Kim told The New York Post. Kim’s allegations come after the arrest of Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who has been charged with working as an unregistered CCP agent.
Sun and her husband are accused of laundering millions of dollars through CCP-linked networks to purchase luxury properties and cars. Kim also noted that his opponent received support from the American Chinese Commerce Association, an organization with ties to the CCP.
Kim’s primary election was closely contested, but he ultimately secured his seat. However, Kim warned that the CCP’s influence in U.S. politics is a growing threat. He emphasized that while most of the Chinese community in New York opposes the CCP, there are new groups loyal to Beijing that are trying to disrupt the American political system.
