Poll Shows Most Americans Believe Southern Border Crisis Is An ‘Invasion’

A new poll indicates that a majority of all Americans now believe that the crisis on the country’s southern border being facilitated by Joe Biden represents an “invasion” on some level. The NPR/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,116 adults across the nation on July 28 and 29, asking about their position on the illegal immigration problem and how it impacts the trafficking of illegal drugs.

When asked if the statement that conditions at the southern border represent an “invasion,” 53% of respondents said the statement is either “completely true” (28%) or “somewhat true” (25%).

Respondents were also asked if the crisis is responsible for the overdose deaths in the U.S. due to “migrants bringing fentanyl and other illegal drugs over the southern border.” Half believed that is either “completely true” (22%) or “somewhat true” (28%).

When asked if the Biden administration’s approach amounts to an “open border policy,” 21% said that is “completely true,” 21% said it is “somewhat true,” 25% said it is “completely false,” and 33% said they did not know.

The results reflect ongoing tensions between the Biden administration and red-state governors, especially on the Mexican border in Arizona and Texas.

Migrants are illegally entering the U.S. through Mexico in record numbers. So far in fiscal year 2022, which ends in October, the U.S. Border Patrol has reported over 1.82 million arrests of illegal migrants. That year-to-date total already exceeds the previous yearly record of 1.66 million arrests set just last year.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has been overseeing a relocation project for illegal migrants being dumped into Texas by the Biden administration after their arrest and immediate release. Abbott has directed the transportation of hundreds of the migrants by bus to Washington, D.C., and more recently to New York City as well.

Abbott has designated the program as part of Operation Lone Star, a state-level operation in Texas to provide security to local communities in response to the willful failure of the federal government to enforce the immigration laws enacted by Congress.

Among the gross failures of the Biden White House to enforce the law this year, on Wednesday a video was released showing Border Patrol agents unlocking a border gate to let around two dozen illegal border crossers enter the U.S.

The gate had been secured and locked by Texas national guardsmen before the Border Patrol agent followed orders given to permit the illegal migrants to enter for processing and release.
