File another story under the heading “What could possibly go wrong?” The President of Ukraine has announced that everyone must fight for the homeland, including state prisoners. Remember the lessons of the DC comic book “Suicide Squad,” which promise prisoners that they will get their freedom in exchange for fighting the Russians, will have some unintended consequences.
First, most everybody in jail is there for a reason. Sure, sometimes there is a random political prisoner framed patsy on the cell block. For the most part, the judicial system has made the proper assessment that the public is safer without many violent inmates running around. Secondly, can you trust these people will do what you ask them to do? 99 percent of humans, when asked, “Would you like to get out of here? All you must do is…” respond with a resounding yes before even hearing what they must do.
Ok, so these are some violent and irrational people who you know are lying about the promises they are making. How could we make this problem worse? I know, give all of them AK-47s and high explosives. Before they get to the battlefield, they might want to settle some scores that popped up while in prison over who gets to use all the hot water in the shower first. Those beef must be resolved before any nation defending can occur.
Also, what if these people get captured? Can Zelenskyy rely upon them to keep operational security and not give up the goods when tortured? I could go on and on, but you are starting to get the point that this is an all-time bad idea in the pantheon of bad ideas.
Zelenskyy is trying to think creatively because he is entirely out of other options. No matter what the mainstream media is trying to tell you, Ukraine will fall. It is only a matter of time. It doesn’t matter what Zelenskyy does, good ideas or bad, they all will have the same result. A tragedy for the people of Ukraine.
