Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) appeared Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Last Word” to claim that the Justice Department was moving towards an indictment of former President Donald Trump, among other things.
Discussions on the panel ensued over reports that the DOJ asked a federal judge to hold Trump in contempt of court for disregarding a subpoena that ordered him to hand over allegedly classified documents.
“Whatever you are, your viewers may think about previous investigations into Donald Trump, and the frustration that has come with those, this team is not screwing around,” claimed Swalwell.
“I think that that reflects the gravity of what it’s at risk here with more documents being potentially in the hands of Donald Trump or his team. They need those documents, and it also looks like they are moving toward an indictment of Donald Trump. He wouldn’t take all of these steps unless you are serious.”
Swalwell continued his rant and claimed that “the walls are closing in” for the former president.
“Donald Trump is a legal terrorist. He has benefited for decades by delay, delay, delay. This is a tactic that he is using, but the walls are closing in, and as you just pointed out, there is really no right answer here for Donald Trump. His silence is deafening. It is essentially an admission that he still possesses these documents, which gives reason for the DOJ to proceed with this case.”

“We are approaching a legal crescendo for Donald Trump that he has not seen in the years that he’s been in the courts,” Swalwell added.
Swalwell has proved to be a controversial figure himself as well. The California representative has been credibly accused of having sex with an alleged Chinese spy known as “Fang Fang,” a charge he has not denied.
Many conservative figures have made fun of Swalwell’s scandal, often pointing out the rich irony of a congressman who relentlessly pushed the Trump-Russia hoax being compromised by foreign forces.
“[Swalwell] was probably the number two recipient of these tinfoil hat brigade attacks about Russia for years,” Donald Trump Jr. noted when he spoke on the congressman in 2020.
“I find it very ironic that he was perhaps sleeping with a Chinese spy, certainly one that had infiltrated his inner circle.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has refused to remove Swalwell from his sensitive high-ranking position in the House Intelligence Committee despite the allegations.
