Republicans Are Targeting These Democrats In 2024

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) plans to target 37 seats in the next election cycle to increase the Republican Party’s slim majority.

The list of targets consists of 35 incumbents and two open seats previously held by Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Katie Porter (D-CA), who are both leaving to run for Senate. Some of the targets on the list are members who won with less than a one-percentage point margin in the last election.

Republicans currently hold a narrow majority in the House of Representatives, with only four seats separating them from the Democrats. However, within the Republican caucus, there is a vocal minority that has disrupted the GOP’s legislative agenda in the past, including during the vote for House speaker.

NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) has stated that Republicans are “on offense and hold the majority.” He forecasts they will expand their majority in the House by creating strong campaigns around talented recruits in select districts who can communicate the dangers of Democrats’ “extreme agenda.” In a recent statement, Hudson said, “These House Democrats should be shaking in their boots.”

NRCC’s list includes 19 Democrats who won last cycle despite significant spending against them, according to FEC reports. Some on the list are Rep. Yadira Caraveo (D-CO), Gabriel Vasquez (D-NM), and Pat Ryan (D-NY), each winning by just a few thousand votes. Moreover, some of the targeted races in the upcoming election were among the costliest in terms of outside spending in the previous election.

Other incumbents the GOP will be targeting include Mary Peltola (D-AK), Mike Levin (D-CA), Jahana Hayes (D-CT), Eric Sorensen (D-IL), Frank Mrvan (D-IN), Sharice Davids (D-KS), Jared Golden (D-ME), Hillary Scholten (D-MI), Dan Kildee (D-MI), Angie Craig (D-MN), Don Davis (D-NC), Wiley Nickel (D-NC), Chris Pappas (D-NH), Susie (D-NV), Steven Horsford (D-NV), Greg Landsman (D-OH), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Emilia Sykes (D-OH), Andrea Salinas (OR), Susan Wild, Matt Cartwright (D-PA), Chris Deluzio (D-PA), Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) and Kim Schrier (D-WA).

Meanwhile, as the NRCC cranks up the heat on Democrats, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has yet to release its own target list. But it has released a list of vulnerable Democratic seats. The NRCC is targeting almost all the seats on the DCCC’s list and adding some additional ones.
