Shooting In Arizona Leaves Several Injured

A Shooting Incident at the Tanger Outlets in Glendale Arizona has left five Injured, including three juveniles. The incident began when two groups confronted one another and began fighting; shots rang out and five victims were rushed to the hospital.

The altercation originally began as a fight, but escalated into a shooting. Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Ngalula stated that the man who fired the gun was “with a woman and a small child when he got into a fight with a group of young people and it escalated into a shootout.”

Ngalula said that officers on scene were affected by the age of the injured children. Ngalula also said that the officers performed CPR on one child who is now in stable condition. Though Ngalula said that none of the injuries were life threatening, all five victims were hospitalized.

A nearby witness to the chaos, Austin Farr, said, “We heard what sounded like possible gunshots and then there was a ton of people who came running around the corner and they were screaming, a couple of people screamed, ‘he shot somebody,’ or ‘he’s shooting.’”

The shooting caused bystanders to flee, some in vehicles and some by foot into nearby stores. One store employee who helped to shelter people inside, Matt Peterson, said, “They’re hiding right now. I don’t know if they’re in the back or in the dressing rooms or whatever but they’re hiding in the mall right now.”

Another employee said, “We did have the older folks in the room, and then we had a couple of children in the room as well, so for everybody to kind of keep still, for us to swiftly move the customers to the back of the house and keep them calm as well as us keeping calm while we’re trying to figure out what’s going on, I’m really proud, to be honest.”

Once officers were on scene and began to secure the area, they allowed people to leave while checking their vehicles for anything dangerous or any evidence that could determine what happened. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) is assisting the Glendale Police Department as they investigate the incident.

These incidents are happening more and more, making it dangerous to simply go shopping. Just two years ago a similar incident occurred just east of the Tanger Outlets leaving 3 people injured.

The man responsible is facing over 40 charges.
