Somali Terrorist Entered Southern Border, Caught One Year Later

A known Somali terrorist with the terror group al-Shabaab was captured at the southern border, released into the United States, and then finally arrested in Minnesota after roaming America for around a year.

According to the Daily Caller, the unnamed terrorist was caught after illegally crossing the border near San Ysidro, California on March 13, 2023. The terrorist screening center initially deemed the illegal immigrant a mismatch after running his name through the terror watch list.

On January 18, 2024, however, the terrorist screening center made a “redetermination” that the individual was a part of a terror group and “involved in the use, manufacture or transport of explosives or firearms.”

The man was arrested two days after the redetermination was made.

This news came out close to the same time that remarks made by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) at an event in Minneapolis were released on social media. While there has been some disagreement on the exact translation of her speech, the remarks were pro-Somali in nature.

“Terrorist sympathizer Ilhan Omar in her own words: Somalian first. Muslim second. She never mentions America. She flaunts using her position as a congresswoman to protect Somalia’s border while our border is invaded by MILLIONS of illegals who are a danger to America,” Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted.

Between October and December 2023, 50 people on the terror watch list were apprehended at the border. From 2017 through 2020, only 30 of those same encounters occurred.

President Biden took office in January 2021, and the number of migrant encounters at the border since then has skyrocketed.

“The U.S. southern border has witnessed a record of at least 6.3 million migrant encounters at and between ports of entry since Biden took office in January 2021, according to data from the Office of Homeland Security Statistics, resulting in more than 2.4 million migrants allowed into the country,” states the Migrant Policy Institute.

With that number of migrants entering the US, the fear of known terrorists entering the country with them has grown as well.

“Many within the Biden administration, including Secretary Mayorkas, have repeatedly assured us that the vetting process at the border is comprehensive and complete,” said John Fabbricatore, a retired ICE field director.

“However, we continue to witness alarming instances where terrorists are able to freely roam the United States for months after being released at the border before their criminal and terrorist histories come to light. This situation is greatly endangering our nation.”
