A bomb threat made against the Montgomery County GOP office in Pennsylvania has led to the arrest of a Philadelphia man, adding to growing concerns over politically motivated violence as the election draws near. This arrest comes amid fears that the hostility reminiscent of the 2020 election could resurface.
Edward Cieri Jr., 39, allegedly phoned the GOP office on Saturday with violent threats, telling a staffer he would “blow it up” and “shoot the place up.” District Attorney Kevin Steele called the threat “criminal behavior,” emphasizing that law enforcement will act decisively against any attempts to intimidate election staff. He reiterated a commitment to maintaining safety for all election workers in Montgomery County.

The staffer, a member of Trump’s campaign, was alone when he received the call. Christian Nascimento, chair of the Montgomery County GOP, noted that recent assassination attempts on Trump have heightened security concerns, prompting the campaign to shift to virtual operations. Nascimento highlighted the risks faced by conservative campaign offices, pointing to an uptick in targeted threats.
Cieri was charged with Terroristic Threats, Threatening to Place Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Harassment. He was released on $35,000 bail, with restrictions including no contact with the GOP office or staff. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 14.
Authorities have increased security around GOP offices across the county, urging vigilance among the public. Officials have expressed concern over rising political violence as Election Day approaches, particularly in battleground areas like Pennsylvania.
