Obama Scolds US On Guns, Wants To Copy Australia

Former President Barack Obama wagged his accusing finger at the U.S. in an interview with CBS News’ Nate Burleson, a former NFL player. The Democrat essentially called for the confiscation of guns from law-abiding Americans in the manner in which it was carried out in Australia.

In the “CBS Mornings” exclusive, Burleson immediately questioned the former president about his solutions to gun violence in America. The Democrat quickly went to gun confiscation.

Obama asserted that those who support stripping firearms from the public should engage in dialogue with Second Amendment supporters.

Fair enough, but does the former president believe that any amount of persuasion is going to be enough to talk Americans into voluntarily handing over their guns?

Burleyson then declared that guns are as prevalent within some communities, though exactly who he was referring to was unclear. Obama expressed agreement and then lamented what he described as “military-grade” weaponry flooding U.S. streets.

Then the former president moved on to his radical solution.

Citing Australia as his example, Obama said the nation had “one mass shooting fifty years ago and they said, ‘Nope, we’re not doing that anymore.”

He added his belief that confiscation is how a society should respond “when your children are at risk.”

He also blatantly ignored the Constitution and simply claimed that the issue over gun rights is “ideological” and “partisan.” Also lost in the scolding is the clear difference that Australia did not have the embedded legal right to own a weapon.

Asked what it is currently that “keeps you up at night,” Obama told the interviewer that it is the nation’s “divided media.” “When I was coming up, you had three TV stations. And people were getting a similar sense of what is true and what isn’t, what was real and what was not.”

The Democrat blasted the diversity of information sources in 2023, saying there is now a “splintering of the media, we almost occupy different realities.”

In one sitting, Obama managed to disparage both the First and Second Amendments. Even now, he shows very little understanding of how the American government works, the limits on federal power, and the role of Washington in protecting — not stripping — civil liberties.
