Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy recently said during the second GOP debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, that “transgenderism” is a mental health illness and that it is cruel to indoctrinate kids with such a vile ideology, according to the Daily Wire.
Fox News co-host Dana Perino, one of the debate’s moderators, asked Ramaswamy whether he would sign a bill into law preventing schools from hiding crucial information about a child’s gender identity from their parents.
“I have to be very clear about this, transgenderism, especially in kids, is a mental health disorder,” Ramaswamy said. “We have to acknowledge the truth of that for what it is.”

“Parents have the right to know. And you know what the hypocrisy of this is, even New Hampshire failed to actually get passed a piece of legislation here,” he added.
“The very people who say that this increases the risk of suicide are also the ones saying that parents don’t have the right to know about that increased risk of suicide. And I’m sorry, it is not compassionate, to affirm a kid’s confusion,” Ramaswamy continued. “That is not compassion. That is cruelty.”
Ramaswamy said he met two young women who expressed their regret to him for having received double mastectomies and a hysterectomy. One of the women, because of the procedures, will never be able to have children.
The billionaire mogul said he would ban “genital mutilation or chemical castration under the age of 18,” adding that he would pass a law protecting parental rights.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, Ramaswamy said that over 50% of children with gender dysphoria have considered taking their own lives.
“And yet politicians reject a law that would require schools to inform parents if their kids change their gender identity at school. Parents have a right to know about their kids: that shouldn’t be controversial….” Ramaswamy wrote on X.
As one would expect, the New York Times fact-checked Ramaswamy on his comments about “transgenderism” calling them “false.” “Being transgender is not a mental health disorder,” the New York Times said, according to Breitbart News.
