Trump Encourages Johnson To Reject Border Deal Unless ‘Perfect’

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) has had a lot of pressure on him from conservatives to reject the bipartisan border deal and Ukrainian aid package that is in the works. Former President Donald Trump has also joined in to encourage Johnson to reject the deal unless it is “perfect on the border.”

Trump posted his thoughts about the border deal on the social media outlet TRUTH Social Wednesday.

“I do not think we should do a Border Deal, at all, unless we get EVERYTHING needed to shut down the INVASION of Millions & Millions of people, many from parts unknown, into our once great, but soon to be great again, Country!”

“I have no doubt our wonderful Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, will only make a deal that is PERFECT ON THE BORDER,” Trump continued. “Remember, without Strong Borders and Honest Elections, we don’t have a Country!!!”

The border deal that has Republicans saying no revolves around the U.S. allowing 5,000 illegal immigrants to cross the border daily and increasing the number of green cards handed out by 50,000.

Johnson met with President Joe Biden and other congressional leaders on Wednesday to discuss the border. Johnson stated that he would not consider the aid to Ukraine until the issue at the border was addressed.

“We understand that all these things are important, but we must insist, we must insist that the border be the top priority,” Johnson said.

Johnson insists that unless the border bill is similar to HR2, House Republicans will not accept it. HR2 would allow the construction of a wall around the border and restrict eligibility and access for asylum.

On Fox News’s “The Ingraham Angle,” Johnson stated that he and Trump speak regularly about the border. He said that in his meeting with Biden, he told him that he had the authority to fix the border issues that the Biden administration caused.

Ingraham pointed out that Johnson is working with an administration with a different agenda, noting that the border crisis would have been fixed by now if the Biden administration wanted to. As soon as Biden was elected, he undid many of Trump’s border policies, including the halt of building the wall around the border.

Majority Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) made it clear that Democrats are focused on sending aid to Ukraine instead of securing the border. Shortly after the meeting with Biden, he said that sending money to Ukraine was important.

When Ingraham asked Johnson why Ukraine aid and the border could not be separate bills, he responded that it is used as “leverage” for the border by the Democrats and that in the future, they might be separated.
