ABC, NBC Skip Inflation Report While Americans Feel The Pain

ABC and NBC failed to cover the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, which revealed that inflation continues to impact American households. The omission comes despite rising costs that leave many families struggling to make ends meet. Only CBS included a segment on the CPI during its evening news broadcast.

According to CBS, inflation rose 2.6% in October compared to the previous year, marking the first increase in headline inflation since March. Housing costs were identified as a significant driver, with rent prices climbing nearly 0.5% last month alone and 4.9% over the past year. While some grocery prices, like eggs and fresh vegetables, saw slight declines, overall grocery costs remain elevated compared to pre-pandemic levels.

CBS highlighted the struggles of families like Ashley Rice’s, who described her grocery bill as “almost doubled.” She pointed out startling increases in everyday items, such as orange juice now costing $9.99 compared to $7 previously. Rice added that inflation has affected her business, as customers cut back on nonessential spending.

Despite the importance of this economic data, ABC and NBC opted not to address the issue. This lack of reporting raises questions about media priorities, especially since the election has concluded and voters have already rendered their judgment on economic policies.

The CPI report also pointed to mortgage rates potentially rising further due to inflation concerns, creating additional pressure on American families. These developments underscore the challenges many face as wages struggle to keep pace with persistent cost increases.

While CBS deserves credit for addressing the issue, its competitors’ silence on a story impacting millions of Americans is notable. As inflation continues to weigh heavily on families, many will look to see whether major networks provide more balanced coverage under the incoming Trump administration.
